DIY Ruffled Coffee Filter Lampshade

The other day, I was browsing the internet trying to get inspiration for ideas on covering my lampshade. It was plain white and I wanted to add something to it. Luckily, I found this blog detailing an extremely easy and creative way to make a pretty ruffled lampshade for virtually no money! She used coffee filters to give it the look. So I'm going to show you how I did mine!

1. Fold the coffee filter in half
2. Fold it in half again...
3. Fold it in half one last time..
4. Fold a little triangular shaped crease at the tip (which is the part you will be gluing onto the shade)
5. Start gluing!

This project took me about 6-7 hours in total. It did get boring at times but when you've missed three episodes of gossip girl and need to catch up, this didn't seem so bad=). And after the first couple hundred coffee filters, you can pretty much do it with your eyes closed! I used tacky glue to glue on the filters but you can also use a glue stick or a glue gun. In total I used 520 coffee filters and it was so worth it! The project only cost me $5.

Simple DIY Picture Frames

Since I just moved into a new apartment, I've been trying to do things to spruce up the white walls. My apartment is nowhere near being finished but it's definitely getting there. Once it is almost done( which should be soon) I will post a little tour! :)
I have had some old picture frames laying around for some time so I decided to put them to use. I bought two fat quarters of fabric and mattings to fit the frames. The fabrics are from Joann's and were only 1.50 a piece.

All I did was tape the fabric to the matting....

And then place it in the frame. Simple! This is what it looks like now. I still need to add some more stuff onto the walls but for now this is where I hung the frames.

P.S. Ignore the hammer I accidently left in the picture ;)

Painted Candlestick

I bought a bunch of candlesticks the other day for a couple of dollars each. They needed a bit of a makeover though. I didn't have any primer on hand so I used a metal sponge (not quite sure what they're called) to roughen it up a bit.

And this is what it looks like when its all sanded....

Then i gave it a little paint...

DIY Jewelry Holder

Lately, I've been completely obsessed with crafting and painting everything and anything I can get my hands on. The other day, I hit up the local Goodwill (which was having a 50% off sale) and picked up a few things. I really desperately needed a new jewelry holder so I snagged this cute little frame for $1.50!!

I really liked the frame but not so much the color. So I used some spare white paint I had and gave it a few coats. Before the paint was dry, I wiped the edges with a damp towel cloth to give it a 'worn-antiquey' look:)

I took some teency tiny little hooks ($2) and screwed them into the wood with some pliers. Three times on each side of the frame.

Then, I grabbed some picture wire and twisted it around each of the mini hooks (notice my horrible paint job:).

Then, I glued a piece of scrapbook paper ($0.50) to the back of the frame, hung my earrings and WA-LA! An adorable, easy and very cheap jewelry holder:)

Still needs a little bit of tweaking but that's it for now.
